She was last seen September 16 in Tshakhuma village outside Thohoyandou, saying she wanted to collect all her belongings from her partner in Malamulele. She was last seen when she left Tshakhuma.

“We were called by police on September 18 and asked to come and identify a body at the state mortuary. We were able to identify her by a tattoo on her left hand,” said Tshisudi.

Acting police spokesperson in the Vhembe region, Serg Vuledzani Dathi confirmed that they have identified the deceased and a murder case is being investigated by Thohoyandou police.

Dathi said it is alleged that a report was received from Thohoyandou Emergency Medical Services (EMS) that they found a body in the road at Thohoyandou Unit D.

“When we visited the scene the deceased was lying on her back and there was a note with the name of a male person and two cellphones numbers.

The deceased had strangulation marks and there is suspicion that she might have been dumped at the scene after she was killed elsewhere,” Dathi said.

He said investigations are ongoing and that a male person has been questioned.

The deceased was buried at her home village of Tshakhuma on September 25.
