Drug dealers in Ivy Park and Ster Park among 1 325 arrested

Drugs worth R320 000 were confiscated during the arrest of two separate suspects in Polokwane following joint operations by Limpopo police.

POLOKWANE- Joint operations led the police in Limpopo to arrest 1 325 suspects aged 19-58 that were conducted simultaneously across the province from 18-26 September.

On Sunday (25 September), the police arrested a  25-year-old suspect for dealing drugs in Ivy Park and confiscated 100 sachets of Nyaope, nine sachets of crystal meth and cash, which all amounted to an estimated street value of R300 000.

In the same operation a 36-year-old foreign national was arrested in Ster Park for the possession of Cat and crystal meth to an estimated street value of R20 000.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the police also clamped down on criminals involved in various offences such as murder, robberies, carjacking, assault, rape, possession of unlicensed firearms, suspected stolen property, dangerous weapons, dealing in drugs and illicit cigarettes, burglaries, as well as undocumented foreign nationals and contravening the immigration laws.

“A total of two firearms, 23 dangerous weapons and 33 knives were confiscated. A total of 1 303 fines were issued and 39 shebeens closed,” he said.

Police also recovered eight suspected stolen vehicles, of which some were reported hijacked or stolen in other provinces.

On Sunday (25 September) a suspicious Toyota Hilux Legend 50 was spotted along the R101 road, north of Mokopane.

“The vehicle was pulled over and it was confirmed that it was reported stolen in Sunnyside, Gauteng,” Mojapelo said.

The 25-year-old driver was arrested.

Some of the arrested suspects have started to appear before various Magistrate’s Courts across the province.
