Lindie Oberholzer murder accused ‘not forthcoming with information’

Fortune Mahlatse Sebone (19) appeared before Magistrate Janine Ungerer in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court for the murder of Lindie Oberholzer.

POLOKWANE – The legal representative for murder accused Fortune Mahlatse Sebone (19) said she needs more time to establish an address before applying for bail.

Sebone appeared before Magistrate Janine Ungerer in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court this morning on a charge of murder and house robbery.

He was arrested in August following a foiled house robbery in Welgelegen and positively linked to Oberholzer’s murder.

Oberholzer was murdered in her home on August 17 and her body was found by her husband Obie and her son, Armand after returning from a hunting trip.

Before proceedings began, those in attendance held up posters that read ‘I could have been Lindie’.

His legal representative said Sebone is not forthcoming with information and that she is struggling to get his grandmother to sign an affidavit to use her address for bail.

The spokesperson for the Department of Social Development Adèle van der Linde said the department is keeping a close eye on the case.

“The fact that this young man allegedly murdered a woman and then went on to assault an older person makes him somebody we definitely do not want on the streets. We are happy that he will spend another three weeks behind bars and we will be happy if he is remanded in custody,” she said.

Sebone will next appear on October 17.
