Foreign nationals nabbed in Dalmada with R1.5m in illicit cigarettes

A truck with 152 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes was confiscated and two men arrested by the police in Dalmada on the R71 on Friday.

POLOKWANE – Two foreign nationals will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday (September 26) following their arrest on the R71 in Dalmada on Friday (September 23) for the transportation on illicit cigarettes.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the Makhado Crime Intelligence Unit had received information about an 8t truck that was enroute to Alberton in Gauteng from Musina.

Mojapelo said the police in Mankweng and Polokwane and members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol team monitored the truck from the N1 north through Makhado and was eventually stopped and searched in Dalmada.

“Police found the truck loaded with 152 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes and the suspects failed to account for their origin. The truck and the illicit cigarettes valued at R1.5m were seized during the arrest,” he said.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the police for the well-coordinated operation.
