Have your will drafted for free with these local attorneys
Anyone aged 16 and older van get their will drafted at no charge during National Wills Week to protect their loved ones' interests.
LIMPOPO- National Wills Week, which is annually held in September, gives every citizen in the country the opportunity to draft a will free of charge from participating attorneys.
This year in the Vhembe region, residents can visit some of the attorneys who are participating in Wills Week from September 12-16.
As one of the participating attorneys, Maanda Magadze of Maanda Magadze Attorneys said anyone aged 16 years and above can have a will drafted.
Those who are mentally challenged, will need the assistance of a curator.
“An attorney has extensive knowledge of the administration of estates and is able to advise on the best way to distribute the estate, taking into account the type of marriage applicable. A will may also be kept in an attorney’s office for safekeeping,” said Magadze.
He said the administration of the estate will be done in terms of Intestate Succession Act, the law that states a uniform way of distributing estates of people without a will.
“A will makes it easier and quicker for an estate to be administered during the death of a testator. It shows the direction in which the administration must take place. It is better to have a will written as soon as possible in order to protect the interests of your loved ones. The pain of having to go long processes is too much for someone who is grieving,” he said
Hundzulani Maluleke of Hundzukani Maluleke Attorneys Inc said a person who is 16 years or older and of sound mind is competent to have a will drafted.
“You can also appoint a person who will administer your estate.
“The attorney assists a testator or testatrix to draft a valid will by ensuring that the will complies with all the requirements of a valid will. The attorney also ensures that the will is binding and enforceable,” said Maluleke.
