Thabazimbi farmer killed and wife burnt in early morning attack

The two suspects, of which one was killed by police and the other injured and arrested, are believed to have been employed at the slain farmer's farm.

LIMPOPO – Police investigations are underway to determine if additional suspects were involved in an early morning farm attack in which a 68-year-old farmer was killed.

One suspect was shot and killed and another injured and arrested following a shootout with police in Bela-Bela following the attack.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela said the suspects entered the farm house, killed the farmer and injured his wife by burning her with an unknown object.

“The suspects ransacked the house and took two plasma televisions, firearms, cellphones, tools and other items. They loaded the robbed items into the victims’ bakkie and fled the scene,” he said.

Police then received information about a suspected stolen vehicle in the Bela-Bela area that matched the description of the farmer’s vehicle.

“The vehicle was spotted in Potgieter Street and police ordered the driver to stop. The suspects shot at police and a shootout ensued. One suspect was killed and the other injured and arrested,” he said.

The stolen items were recovered.

“Both suspects have been identified and are believed to have been employed at the farm,” Mojapelo added.
