Man finds foetus in bin in Polokwane

The man discovered the foetus in a bin when he searched for food.

POLOKWANE – Local police officers’ investigations to establish who dumped a foetus in a bin in the city, are well underway.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed to Review the discovery was made near Elegant Fuel filling station at the corner of Marshall and Webster streets on Sunday morning.

“A case of concealment of birth has been opened. It is reported that a man was searching for food inside the bin, when he noticed blood inside a plastic bag,” Mojapelo explained.

The man then saw the body of the foetus. “The suspect is unknown at this stage and the gender of the foetus will be determined as police investigations unfold,” Mojapelo added.

Review contacted Elegant Fuel manager Celia Spaumer who explained the bin is situated on the sidewalk outside the premises. “We heard about the discovery on Sunday, when SAPS and Mighty Tactical Reaction Service asked to look at the CCTV footage,” she said.

Spaumer added that they are yet to note someone dumping the foetus.
