Community join hands to clean-up Mahlasedi Park

Ward 14 councillor Khathutshelo Mathoho commended volunteers for assisting in the Mahlasedi Park clean-up campaign and believes cleanliness is an essential part of living healthy and protecting the environment.

POLOKWANE – Ward 14 councillor Khathutshelo Mathoho with a few Mahlasedi Park residents recently embarked on a clean-up campaign.

Mathoho commended the volunteers as he believes to maintain cleanliness is an essential part of living healthy and protecting the environment. He said they as community members are responsible for cleaning Ward 14.

“The purpose of the cleaning campaign is to keep Mahlasedi Park clean. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. The mandate of the municipality is to ensure the environment is clean, but the community took it upon themselves to step forward and partake in cleaning the area they live in.

Khathutshelo Mathoho (Ward14 councillor) ensures the community stays clean so that residents can be proud of their environment.

“A project like this creates a friendly environment, and a social platform for community members. All we want is to keep our environment clean. Illegal waste dumping is a major problem in our communities as people dump items such as nappies in the streets, which is not environmentally friendly. We thought it would be best to educate the community through continuous clean-up campaigns,” said Mathoho.

He told BONUS he is happy that people came in large numbers to support this initiative. “It shows they are concerned about the environment. I approached residents from surrounding areas who are keen to keep their community clean and we hope to continue to foster these good relationships and habits within our society,” he said.

He urged residents to always be mindful of the environment and to clean up after themselves.

“This clean-up campaign also symbolises unity of the municipality, community members and stakeholders. Together we strive to keep our environment clean. Prioritising the health of our people is one of our main focus areas and this campaign proves that we are all moving in the right direction as a municipality. To keep our environment clean is all of our responsibilities.

“When your community is clean you feel a sense of pride and it changes your outlook on your environment,” he said.
