UPDATE: Muni confirms cancellation of planned power outage

The power outage was planned for Saturday (August 27) from 07:00-16:00 for maintenance on the Industria, Laboria and LeRouxville substations.

POLOKWANE – Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said the planned power outage meant to take place on Saturday (August 27) has been cancelled.

Selala said this is due to the Frogfoot Sevens Rugby and Fast Five netball tournament to be hosted at Technical High School Tom Naudé.

“After issuing the notice, the school indicated that they had already planned for a major event so we are trying to accommodate them,” he said.

Selala added that all substations have be switched off and they are unable to isolate the school.

“We will reschedule to a soon-to-be-communicated date,” he told the Polokwane Review.


POLOKWANE – A large part of the city will be affected by a planned power outage on Saturday (August 27), said the Polokwane Municipality.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said this is in order for planned maintenance on the Industria, Laboria and LeRouxville substations.

The power outage is expected to take place from 07:00 to 16:00 and will affect the following areas:

– Correctional Services
– Corundum Street and surroundings
– Doctor Annecke Street and surroundings
– Dolariet Street
– Emdo Park and surroundings
– Enterprise Factory
– Fire offices
– Futura
– Game Centre
– Hill Street
– Technical High School Tom Naude
– Hoërskool Noorderland
– Industria
– Laboria
– Ladine
– Lafarge
– Lesedi Park
– Mahlako a Phahla
– Mahlasedi Park
– Mara Street
– Nissan BB Auto Garage
–  Pietersburg Hospital
– Pietersburg Street
– Platinum Street and surroundings
– River Street
– SABC
– Silicon Street
– Silwer Street

– Spelonken Street
– Staal Street
– Traffic and Licensing Centre
– Water Purification Plant
– Witklip Street
– Yster Street

“Affected areas are urged to treat all electrical wiring as live and to switch off all appliances during the downtime to avoid injury and damage once supply is restored,” Selala said.
