LIMPOPO – A mother and her children have been left stranded after their home was destroyed in a fire on August 8.

“We were sitting at home when we suddenly heard somebody screaming for help and upon investigation, we found that the house was burning. This happened during the day.”

Everything inside the house was destroyed but Mudau, her children and grandchildren managed to escape uninjured.

“We thank God that noone got hurt. The fire fighters tried to stop the blaze but couldn’t. Three beds, three wardrobes, a refrigerator, a laptop, all our clothes, food, blankets, identity documents and certificates have been destroyed. All we were left with was the clothes we were wearing on the day. We estimate the damage in the region of about R800 000, which is a lot of money for someone who is unemployed,” said Mudau.

The family pleads with the community for donations to help them get back on their feet again.

“Anything will be helpful. I would like to repair the house. I need to give my children a home again, but it is going to be difficult,” she said.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the incident and said they opened an arson case. Anyone who can offer their assistance to the Mudau family can contact 072 789 4971.
