Chip, putt and play for a good cause

Residents are urged to play in a golf day in aid of Louis Opperman's medical bills.

POLOKWANE – Louis Opperman (20) is a much-loved staff member of the Polokwane Golf Club and a friendly face at the Pro Shop.

Last year was, however, an extremely difficult time for him after he was diagnosed with Covid-19.

He was initially admitted to a local hospital, but things did not get better and he had to be airlifted to a private hospital in Gauteng. There he was diagnosed with septicaemia and salmonella poisoning.

The doctor noted a few days later that Louis also had meningitis. Louis’ left lung collapsed four times and he needed about five units of blood. He had problems with his heart and a blood clot formed in his lung.

After weeks of worry, prayers and get-well messages, Louis returned home and it was not too long before he was seen on the golf course again.

There are, however, some medical bills that need to be paid even though Louis belongs to his dad, Willie’s, medical aid.

To help raise money to pay these bills, the family decided to host a golf day on August 26. The day will be played in a better ball stableford format.

A four ball costs R3 000 or R5 000 if you want to sponsor a hole.
