POLOKWANE – In film and television, graphic design is all about creating an atmosphere that is compelling and helps with moving the plot forward.
Former Mitchell House learner Arlinka Viljoen, who studies and works virtually as a graphic art and visual effects designer, has become the latest South African to be nominated for an Emmy Award.

Arlinka is nominated in the Graphic Arts category of the Rocky Mountain Two Emmy Awards for her work on a series titled Strange Places: An Improper Use of Shading. The nominees were announced by the regional American Emmy Awards for Television in the early hours of this morning.
She did graphic and visual effects design for the series, which airs on a recently established American channel AZ.TV 7 and her work was judged by television professionals in New York, Los Angeles, and around America.
The award is headed by the United States’ National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Arlinka explained that graphic design on screen makes the audience feel more immersed and ties all elements together.
“I love graphic design and visual effects because I can get creative and get the opportunity to try exciting new ideas that have never been attempted before,” she said.
The American Emmy Awards ceremony regional division will be hosted on October 1 in Phoenix, Arizona.
