Loverboy’s delectable doughnuts leave a lasting impression

Koketso Mankgabe said he was inspired by Krispy Kreme to create the perfect doughnut that will keep his customers coming back for more.

POLOKWANE – Koketso Mankgabe, who is also known as Loverboy, makes delectable doughnuts from his Bendor home.

He explained his friend told him he wanted to start a business that sells magwinya, which sparked his own idea to start selling doughnuts, which he does under the name, Lover’s Doughnuts.

“My mother is a baker so I took a few lessons from her and watched YouTube videos to help me make the perfect doughnut. My father helped me to gather all the equipment I would need and I was ready to go,” he said.

Mankgabe tested out his business model for a week to see what the response from potential customers might be and to gauge the profit margins. He said the response was amazing, better than he expected.

“My inspiration was Krispy Kreme because I have never tasted another doughnut that came close to the flavour of a Krispy Kreme doughnut, and I wanted the same effect with my doughnuts. I made sure they are memorable and people keep coming back for more,” he said.

Mankgabe added he felt the need to start this business to sustain himself during months he would not book as many jobs as an entertainer. “I am an MC and there are months that sometimes go by without getting any gigs. This business is a supplement for that time,” he said.

He added he does bulk orders as well, and people should not hesitate to get in touch with him should a need for doughnuts arise. Visit his Instagram handle @loversdoughnuts or contact 083 941 5423. He urged people to place their orders a day before collection to avoid disappointment.
