Gogo Alidzuli celebrates her 100th birthday

Asked what the secret to a long life is, Musiamo answered to eat healthy food, listen to the elders as a child and to respect them as an adult, and to avoid alcohol.

LIMPOPO – Gogo Alidzuli Musiamo from Ha-Mashau had the opportunity to celebrate her century spent on Earth on July 30.

Family, friends and neighbours gathered under a white stretch tent, which was beautifully decorated with blue and white decor, in honour of Musiamo’s 100th birthday. The event was organised by her children and according to Musiamo’s grandchildren, they feel blessed to know their grandmother who reached such a special age.

“Our gogo is a blessing from the Lord. We have the honour to listen to her stories from when she was young and we can one day tell our children the stories we heard from her,” the grandchildren agreed and thanked their grandmother for the love she gives them everyday.

Her children said they are blessed to still have their mother with them and added: “The values she instilled in us is priceless and we try and teach these values to our children, who will teach it to their children. Our mother is our pillar of strength and we love her very much.”Asked what the secret to a long life is, Musiamo answered to eat healthy food, listen to the elders as a child and to respect them as an adult, and to avoid alcohol.

“Today’s children do not play outside anymore. They are always on their cellphones or in front of the TV. When I was a child we used to play indigenous games and that kept our bodies strong and healthy. My advice to the parents is to let your children play outside and be more active, and parents must play with their children as well. This will cultivate a healthy mind, body and strengthen family relationships,” said Musiamo.
