POLOKWANE – One unit of blood can save up to three lives, but there are times when a patient may need more than one unit to survive.
The SANBS needs to maintain a blood stock level of five days for each blood group to ensure sustained blood availability for patients in need, which is why it is important to donate blood often.
The SANBS aims to collect 3 000 units of blood per day to ensure a safe and sufficient blood supply in the health care system and while there are many blood donation centres open to the public, mobile clinics in the community also offer residents an opportunity to donate.
