Noordskool celebrates World Reading Day

Last Wednesday, Noordskool learners had the opportunity read aloud in front of their class mates and teachers in honor of World Reading Day.

POLOKWANE – “When we celebrate World Reading Day at school, learners get to discover various books that some may otherwise have never picked up before,” Noordskool teacher Magdel Lee told Review.

Learners last Wednesday had the opportunity to read aloud in front of their class mates and teachers, and also had to narrate what the book was all about once they were done reading.

Gr 7 learners Ntshembo Ravhuhali (leader) and Ronewa Manganyi (head girl) share a story book.

Gr 6 learner Karabo Letsoara explained what they had learnt in class on the day: “Reading helps us create a love of reading for life. It increases our vocabulary and we also learned new words”.

Zwavhudi Matshavha who’s also in Gr 6 told Review that reading improves learners’ literary skills.

“When you read, you focus from left to right and when turning the pages, you get to learn that it is essential for continuity purposes.”
