Seshego learners encouraged to learn through play

Empty Toy Box Education promotes learning through play and making use of recycled materials to create educational toys and resources.

POLOKWANE – Empty Toy Box Education encouraged learning through play, the recycled way, when they recently hosted training for early childhood development (ECD) teachers at the Hope Christian Creche and Preschool in Seshego Ext 71.

Empty Toy Box Education was founded at the end of 2017 by Shayne Moodie and rolled out in February 2018.

It promotes learning through play and making use of recycled materials to create educational toys and resources, and empowers ECD practitioners through play in line with early learning developmental areas and national early learning development standards from the national framework – all with the aim raise the standard of intervention in the formative years through practical workshops, activities, and games.

To stimulate the creativity of ECD practitioners and filter this down to the children, problem-solving and critical thinking skills become part of everyday life.

After Moodie was approached by The Rotary Club of Polokwane to train the staff of the Golden Future Creche and Preschool, she decided to open the project to anyone that would benefit from it.

This year, they have 135 participants to date and so far, 37 of those have attended all the training sessions offered this year. They will receive certificates in a ceremony to be held in November at a date to be confirmed.
