Blockade leaves Leeto la Polokwane commuters stranded

The Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association said this morning's blockade of the Leeto la Polokwane depot is as a result of the municipality's failure to uphold a memorandum of agreement signed in 2017.

POLOKWANE – Leeto la Polokwane suspended its bus services today following an early morning blockade by the Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association.

A public notice to its commuters was posted on Facebook at 05:15 this morning, informing commuters of the temporary suspension.

The notice also urged commuters to make alternative travel arrangements and that they would be informed once services are restored.

Police are currently on the scene to monitor the situation as all buses remain in the depot and taxis are parked outside.

The Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association said the blockade is as a result of the Polokwane Municipality’s failure to hold their end of a bargain endeared into a memorandum of agreement signed in 2017.

When signed, it was agreed that the bus system would benefit locals with employment and other monetary benefits.

The association said they will not allow buses to ferry commuters until their demands are met and a closed meeting between stakeholders is set to take place at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex later today.
