Two men arrested and positively linked to murder of Northam man (37)

Hennie Venter's dismembered remains were found disposed of at different locations on the Wildebeeslaagte Plot in the Northam policing area.

LIMPOPO – Two men are expected to appear before the Northam Magistrate’s Court today (July 25) after they were positively linked to the murder of Hennie Venter (37).

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said Venter was reported missing on September 11, 2021 and that a task team comprised of various police units made a breakthrough earlier this month when they discovered a knife, panga and an axe on the Wildebeeslaagte Plot, believed to be the weapons used to commit the murder.

“Police investigations were intensified on the plot and surrounding areas which led to the discovery of remains believed to be that of the deceased. The dismembered remains were found disposed of at different locations next to the plot. The two suspects were then arrested after they were positively linked to the murder,” he said.

Mojapelo said the first suspect was arrested in Bloemfontein on July 17, while the other was arrested in Northam on Saturday (July 23).

“Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were friends with the deceased and he had visited when they allegedly killed him. The suspects then dismembered his body and disposed of the body parts,” he said.

Mojapelo said the motive for the murder and how the victim was killed will be determined through further investigation.

“The deceased’s remains were taken to the forensic department for DNA investigation to determine conclusive identification.”

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said she hopes justicce will ne served for the victim and everyone affected and described the incident as once of the most shocking Limpopo has seen.
