Law enforcers more visible along Leeto la Polokwane’s Seshego route

The stoning of two buses along the route called for stricter security measures to ensure the safety of passengers.

POLOKWANE – Stricter safety measures have been put into place for Leeto la Polokwane (LLP) commuters who make use of the buses to travel to and from Seshego.

Buses along the route are now highly monitored by municipal traffic police as well as by-law officers, after an incident on July 5 where two of these buses were stoned. The buses were ferrying commuters on Bo-Okelo Street to Madiba Park and Seshego Zone 1 at the time of the incident.

LLP Spokesperson Rebotile Malakalaka says the decision to monitor buses along the route is their way to ensure commuters’ safety. “A case was opened with police and it was agreed that municipal law enforcement would play an overseeing role to ensure that similar incidents are avoided in the future,” she explains.

Malakalaka adds that some buses, especially in instances where the buses are used for special municipal functions, are escorted by municipal traffic vehicles.

She explains that not all buses can be escorted as there is not enough law enforcement officers due to budget restrictions. “We wish to employ more municipal law enforcement officers so that there is enough protection for municipal property,” Malakalaka adds.

Review contacted police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi who said no arrests have been made yet. “There are no updates in this regards but our investigation continues,” he concluded.
