Vehicle dealership fraudsters arrested in Louis Trichardt

A dealership salesman assisted his accomplice in getting approved for a vehicle worth over R500 000 even though he did not meet the requirements.

LIMPOPO – A 41-year-old vehicle salesman and his 26-year-old accomplice appeared before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court today (July 18) following their arrest on Saturday (July 16).

The duo were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit for alleged fraud and face charges relating to fraud and forgery.

The provincial Hawks’ spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke said the salesman, who is based in Makhado, facilitated the vehicle finance application for his client, who is an accomplice, and  assisted him in getting approved for a vehicle worth over R500 000 even though he did not meet the requirements.

Maluleke said the vehicle worth R573 759.56 was approved through Absa.

“After the vehicle was successfully approved and delivered to the client, the bank realised the documents were fraudulent. A case was opened and referred to the Hawks for further investigation,” he said.

Maluleke said investigations into the matter continue.
