Nurses and security guards attacked and robbed at Sambandou Clinic

Three armed men arrived at the 24-hour clinic in the Vhembe District at 01:00 under the guise of seeking medical attention.

LIMPOPO – The MEC for Health Dr Phophi Ramathuba said she is angered and worried over the attack and robbery of four nurses and two security guards in the early hours of this morning (June 27) at the Sambandou Clinic in the Vhembe District.

The MEC’s spokesperson Thilivhali Muavha said three men arrived at the clinic in a bakkie at around 01:00, under the guise of seeking medical attention.

“The armed men attacked two security guards and four female nurses before demanding the keys of a car parked in the precinct. The men then tied up one of the nurses before fleeing the scene in the car,” he said.

The vehicle was later recovered by members of the South African Police Service.

Ramathuba said she is disappointed by criminal activity targeting clinics in the province.

“These thugs are reducing the gains that we have put together as a department to have 24-hour service clinics. Our staff have dedicated themselves to saving the lives of others and as a society, we should be ashamed of these barbaric acts,” she said.

Ramathuba has dispatched a team of psychologists to provide psychological support to the victims.
