Action SA names former ANC Limpopo spokesperson as new chair

The party announced the name of former ANC Limpopo spokesperson Sello Lediga as the newly appointed provincial chairperson.

POLOKWANE – An entourage of Action SA’s national leaders arrived in Limpopo on June 17 to launch branch and provincial structures in the province in preparation for the 2024 general elections.

Party leader Herman Mashaba confirmed that they visited Sekhukhune, Capricorn and Vhembe districts where they say they were well received by residents who need better delivery of services.

The party announced the name of former ANC Limpopo spokesperson Sello Lediga as the newly appointed provincial chairperson.

In introducing Lediga, party national chairperson Michael Beaumont said he has been central to witnessing the constant pursuit of self-enrichment which we are all too familiar with, and “he understands the need for change”.

Lediga is a graduate of a Bachelor of Education from the University of Limpopo where he attained an honours degree in history and he is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in history with the same institution.

He was part of the national task team put together to resuscitate Limpopo’s governance after the province was put under administration in 2011 under the leadership of the current deputy Police Minister, Cassel Mathale and premier at the time.

Lediga left active political activities of the ANC in 2014 to pursue business interests. He wrote a book entitled Tenders and the Fall of Limpopo, in 2015 which details how the provincial government’s purse was run dry, allegedly by those in government and their business associates.

Lediga called the moment of his unveiling “emotional” prefacing it with a quotation from Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci: “The crises consists precisely in the fact that the old refuse to die while the new struggle to be born”.

He asserted that the ANC is at the centre of problems experienced in the country and it’s only through its exit that things will be better. Lediga referred to Action SA as “the new kid on the block, formed at the right time”.

“Our focus is 2024. We want to be the second biggest political party in Limpopo,” he remarked.

Other veteran members of the ANC who recently joined Action SA include Contralesa chairperson in Limpopo Kgoshi Letsiri Phaahla and the former Scopa chair in the Limpopo Legislature, Snowy Kennedy.
