Polokwane ER24 paramedics killed in N1 collision

Transport media liaison officer Mike Maringa said the driver and a passenger were killed on the N1 near Codrington after the ambulance hit a stationery truck at the rear.

POLOKWANE – The MEC for Health Dr Phophi Ramathuba said the passing of emergency medical service members, irregardless of being in the public or private health sector, is a great loss.
Ramathuba’s remarks follow the death of two ER24 paramedics from the Polokwane branch on the N1 in the early hours of this morning (June 21).

Transport media liaison officer Mike Maringa said the driver and a passenger were killed on the N1 near Codrington after the ambulance hit a stationary truck at the rear.
“Both the driver and the passenger were killed on impact,” he said.
In a statement released, ER24 said the crew was returning to their branch after transporting a patient to a hospital for further treatment.
“ER24 will be working closely with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the collision,” the statement read.
