Maseala learners recovering following Legae la Batho incident

The Department of Education confirmed that one learner was seriously injured when a scholar transport taxi overturned on Thursday morning.

POLOKWANE – The MEC for Education Polly Boshielo has wished the 12 learners from Maseala Progressive School injured during a motor vehicle incident, a speedy recovery.
The 12 learners were involved in an early morning incident at the Legae La Batho robots along Nelson Mandela Drive on Thursday (June 2) in which the scholar transport taxi they were travelling in, overturned.

Education spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said the learners were travelling from their respoective homes to school.
“It is alleged their vehicle was hit by a private vehicle and overturned, resulting in one learner sustaining serious injuries and 11 learners sustaining minor injuries,” she said.
Chuene said all 12 learners were transported to four different medical facilities where they are receiving medical attention. “Seven learners are in the Seshego hospital, two in the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital, two in Mediclinic Limpopo and one in the Netcare Pholoso hospital,” she confimed.
Boshielo said she is saddened by the ‘unfortunate’ incident.
“It’s quite regrettable that our learners have to endure such an ordeal when they least expected it and should be at school. We truly wish them a full speedy recovery so that they return to school as soon as possible,” Boshielo said.
