Mental health patient strangles fellow patient at George Masebe hospital

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Health said an internal investigation has been launched after a mental health patient was strangled to death by a fellow patient.

Health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana said the incident happened at the mental health care ward of the George Masebe Hospital in the Mogalakwena municipality in the early hours of this morning (May 22).

“The two patients were admitted to the hospital to be stabilised in line with the 72-hour protocol for treating mental health care patients. Police were called to the scene and they are conducting their own investigations,” he said.

Shikwambana added that more details will be shared once available.
