Makhadzi launches cosmetics brand Mavoda

Makhadzi said Mavoda will create business opportunities for the people of Vhembe as they will be able to buy and resell the products and that she plans to launch fragrances, colognes and shower gels at a later stage.

LIMPOPO – A new venture by Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, known as Makhadzi in the music industry, is set to benefit residents in the Vhembe area.

The Limpopo artist, who hails from Ha-Mashamba, Tshivhangani outside Elim in the Vhembe district, recently launched body lotion, petroleum jelly and lip balm under the brand name Mavoda.

“Mavoda will create a business opportunity for the people of Vhembe as they will be able to buy and resell the products. I plan to launch fragrances, colognes and shower gels at a later stage,” she added.

Makhadzi explained why she chose the brand name ‘Mavoda’: “As a young Venda queen, I decided to name my lotion Mavoda as it loosely translates to ‘pure queen’. I want to teach young people what ‘mavoda’ is because it seems like young people forget about their culture and where they come from. I want to remind young people that their culture is important.”

According to her, the products contain natural ingredients such as mango extract, vitamin E and sweet almond oil. She said she chose those ingredients as she aims to ensure “long-lasting hydration” for her customer base. “The products can be used by men and women,” she explained.

Makhadzi said she took a risk to enter the industry. “I cannot limit myself and wanted to take a risk,” she added.

The Themba muthu hitmaker recently launched an extended play (EP), titled Pain ya Jealous, as well as her own sneaker line in collaboration with Kicks.

“The EP has been well received. I was surprised when I performed in the Vhembe area and everyone was singing along. I am constantly in the studio to record other songs that will feature Sho Madjozi and other internationally recognised artists, which I cannot reveal now,” she concluded.
