LIMPOPO – The Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered a manhunt for the suspect(s) who brutally murdered an 85-year-old woman in her home in Kuranta village under the Mokwakwaila policing area on Tuesday morning (May 17).
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said upon arrival, police found the woman with multiple serious injuries and that it appeared the suspect(s) used a sharp object to kill her.

“Emergency services were called and the elderly woman was certified dead on the scene. She was identified as Maidi Puledi Malefofane.” He added that the motive for the incident will be determined by unfolding investigations.
Hadebe has strongly condemned the incident and has directed the District Commissioner, Major General Willie Mashava to lead a team that has already started hunting down the killer(s).
“I call on the community at large to assist the police by providing valuable information that can lead to the arrest of these/this criminal(s),” she said.
Meanwhile, the MEC for Social Development Nkakareng Rakgoale described Malefofane’s murder as “devastating and inhumane”.
“It is very disturbing to see an elderly woman violated in this manner. It cannot be that we have people in society who do not respect the rights of elderly citizens of our province. We call on anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrator of this gruesome act to contact the police,” she said.
Rakgoale added that social workers have been dispatched to the area to begin providing psychosocial support to the family and other affected parties.
“This incident once again puts the spotlight on the safety of our vulnerable groups of society,” she said.
