Taxi driver arrested after Limpopo cops give chase

A traffic official wanted to impound the taxi driver's vehicle at the Kranskop toll plaza, but he sped off.

LIMPOPO – A 42-year-old male taxi driver is expected to appear in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court soon, after he was arrested on Friday night (May 13).

In a statement, Transport media liaison officer Mike Maringa explained the driver assaulted a Limpopo traffic official.

“The officer at Kranskop toll plaza was in the process of impounding the taxi driver’s vehicle as he was operating with fraudulent permits. The officer was then assaulted and the taxi driver got into his vehicle and sped off,” Maringa said.

Law enforcement officers gave chase and cornered the man at a filling station in Polokwane.

“The man was detained at the Modimolle police station. He will face charges of resisting arrest, escaping from lawful custody and assault,” Maringa added and thanked provincial inspector Papi Letwaba for the successful apprehension.
