Vuwani police seek information over vigilantism incident

Three people were severely assaulted and motor vehicles torched during a recent mob incident in the area.

LIMPOPO – Police in Vuwani are appealing to the public for information that can lead to the apprehension of an unknown number of suspects involved in a recent mob justice incident in the area.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the police received complaints from the community about a group of people who were assaulting three men accused of stealing batteries from a TLB machine.

“Police rescued the victims from the angry mob upon arrival on the scene. They had already sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital where they were admitted under police guard,” he said.

Mojapelo added that cases of theft and pointing of firearms were opened against the three suspects and they will appear before the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court once recovered.

“No arrests have been made as yet regarding the mob justice incident. We appeal to anyone with information that can lead to the apprehension of the suspects to contact the crime stop number 08600 10111or the nearest police station.”

He added that police investigations continue.
