Family Day is the perfect opportunity to bond and connect

For Charle Malungane and Leshole Mametja, spending time with family is important but often, their line of work does not allow for that.

POLOKWANE – As the name indicates, Family Day is the perfect opportunity for individuals to spend the day to bond and connect with their loved ones.

The day was first celebrated as Easter Monday in 1910 but later renamed Family Day in 1994 as a means to include all religions.

This holiday was established with a purpose of giving South Africans an additional day to spend quality time with their families since it is observed a day after Easter.

Celebrations vary from family to family, while some choose to travel on this day others relax in the comfort of their homes or visit family.

For Charle Malungane and Leshole Mametja, spending time with family is important but often, their line of work does not allow for that.

The two car guards said they are using much needed time off to catch up with friends and family.

“My friends and I are going to spend Family Day by braaing and enjoying a few drinks together. We will also be seeing people who will be coming home for the long weekend,” Charles said.

Leshole said that since his church is still not open to congregants, he is looking forward to seeing family and enjoying time with them.

“We are used to going to church to celebrate Easter but this year we will host a small prayer at home with extended family who will be coming back home for the holidays to enjoy good food and the company of our children under one roof.”
