Local hardware store donates building material for mobile clinic in Luthuli 9L

Ward 14 councillor Khathutshelo Mathoho said residents have had to receive medical consultation under a tree for 10 years.

POLOKWANE – To host medical consultations under a tree in ward 14 will soon be a thing of the past.

Buco Hardware Legae la Batho donated building material to build a mobile clinic in Luthuli 9L, which ward 14 Councillor Khathutshelo Mathoho received during a handover ceremony at the Luthuli 9L sub-rank on Wednesday.

Community members queue for medical consultation.

Donated materials include 20 bags of cement, four 20l of PVA paint, 11 roof sheets, 5l enamel paint, doors and gate lock. Mathoho said residents received medical consultation under a tree for about 10 years now.

“As the new councillor, I realised we need to move mobile clinics from private residences to central locations so that everyone will be able to access the much-needed service. We also managed to get a donation of bricks. We have already built two consultation rooms and we spoke to the Department of Health to inform them of the new structure they can use when they come to ward 14 every fortnight. We are very proud and thankful that Buco Hardware Legae la Batho donated building materials for the structure,” said Mathoho.

Buco Hardware Legae la Batho store manager Edwin Maliyavusa said it is their responsibility to help the communities that Buco serves.

“People who cannot reach the far clinic will be able to access these medical facilities. We got invested because it is our responsibility to care for residents within our ward. We will be involved in the project from start to finish. As time goes on, we plan to build a big structure for them. We have another project running in ward 14 too, where we sponsor a soccer team with a kit,” said Maliyavusa.
