Three taxis burnt as unrest continues in Polokwane

POLOKWANE – Police and emergency services are currently on the scene as taxi unrest continues in the Downtown CBD.

Transport media liaison officer Mike Maringa confirmed that three taxis and a patrol car were burnt on the corner of Buite and Devenish Street as part of this morning’s unrest.

Maringa added that the Mankweng Taxi Association have agreed to open the R81 and that a meeting to resolve the disruption is currently underway.

“The outcome will be communicated once the meeting is done,” he said.

Large crowds are still gathered in the area and motorists are advised to approach with caution or use alternative routes instead.
