POLOKWANE – Police are monitoring traffic on the R81 as the road is now open following taxi unrest in the area.

Affected roads including Munnik Avenue near Thornhill, the R81 near Mall of the North, Devenish Street as well as the R71 have been cleared for traffic despite taxis still present on the side of the roads.
According to the Polokwane Alerts group, traffic is moving slowly towards the mall and taxis are parked near the bypass bridge but are not obstructing traffic.
An alert also stated that forensics are on the scene where three taxis burnt on the corner of Buite and Devenish Street.

Commuters were left stranded this morning as the Mankweng Taxi Association, earlier this morning (March 25), blocked the R81 towards Mall of the North in retaliation to an operation block by the Seshego Taxi Association this week.
The association is currently in talks with the Department of Transport to find a solution to the matter.
