POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Transport said the R81 and Munnik Avenue will open following taxi unrest this morning.

Media liaison officer Mike Maringa said the department have engaged with the Mankweng and Seshego Taxi Associations to acertain what led to this morning’s blockade which left commuters stranded.
“It is a long standing issue that we have tried to resolve in the past that led to the closure of the taxi rank,” he said.
Maringa added that they have all agreed to meet at the Department of Transport to allow discussions to continue and that the associations agreed to open the R81.
“We are hoping to come out of that meeting with a solution,” Maringa added.
The Mankweng Taxi Association, earlier this morning (March 25), blocked the R81 towards Mall of the North in retaliation to an operation block by the Seshego Taxi Association this week.
The unrest has allegedly moved to Devenish Street from Bok Street to Mandela Drive with unconfirmed reports of gunshots and stone throwing. Two taxis are reportedly on fire.
It is unclear whether there will be ferrying of commuters to Mall of the North or not today.
