Samwu murder accused’s second bail application rejected

State Prosecutor Mashudu Nekhumbe and Magistrate Rendani Netshiunda agreed that no bail be granted as the new information presented was not convincing.

LIMPOPO – The Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court rejected a second bail application brought by Percy Radzuma (33), one of the accused in the murder case of Vhembe district officials who were affiliated to the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu).

Radzuma applied for bail based on new information in February, after his first application was denied in December.

His new legal representative, Adv Tshifhiwa Matodzi, Radzuma argued in court that his client should be released based on health reasons after he apparently fell in his prison cell at the Thohoyandou Correctional Centre. Radzuma currently walks with the help of crutches.

State Prosecutor Mashudu Nekhumbe and Rendani Netshiunda, the magistrate in Thohoyandou, agreed that no bail be granted as the new information presented was not convincing.

Radzuma joined his co-accused, which includes his three brothers, Simon and Ndivhuwo of Makwarela township near Sibasa, and Thabo Sibanze from Eswatini in facing murder charges after the death of Timpson Musetsho (50), the former Samwu acting national president and Ronald Mani in 2019, after the two expressed their dissatisfaction over investments made into the now defunct VBS Mutual Bank.

All four accused have also been linked to other crimes.

Their case was postponed to May 30 to allow the state prosecutor to hand over the docket to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a decision.
