Large scale cable theft leaves part of the R71 in the dark

Street lights from the Nobody area towards Boyne are affected due to serious damage to the electrical infrastructure.

POLOKWANE – Street lights along the R71 have been affected by large scale cable theft in the area, said the Polokwane Municipality.

Municipal communications and marketing manager Matshidiso Mothapo said street lights from the Nobody area stretching towards Boyne are affected.

“Serious damage has been caused to the electrical infrastructure which will require more resources and time to get them back in operation,” he added.

Residents in the are are advised to consider all electrical cables to be live at all times in order to avoid electrocution or injury.

The public is encouraged to report cable theft to the municipality on 015 023 5458, the SAPS Crime Stop 08600 10111 or the Eskom crime line 0800 11 27 22.
