R26.2m water project to benefit Mogwadi (Dendron) community

The project will benefit 1 338 households and created 20 employment opportunities for residents in the area.

LIMPOPO – In a move set to address water supply challenges and reduce backlogs in the Molemole Municipality, the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) recently handed over a completed water project to the Mogwadi (Dendron) community.

The handover ceremony was led by CDM Mayor Mamedupi Teffo and the Mayor of Molemole, Edward Paya, and attended by members of the community as well as other stakeholders.

The project, which cost R26,2m, will benefit 1 338 households and when handing over the project, Teffo explained that the project that started in August 2020, was completed within its set timeframes and that it created 20 employment opportunities for residents in the area.

“As communities grow, the demand for water also increases and it is important to roll out projects that augment the existing water supply and connect more households in the new extensions to the reticulation network,” Teffo explained.

According to the project’s certificate of completion, the scope of work included the drilling of six boreholes and their electrification, construction of a steel water tank, the package plant for purification and a concrete water pump house.

Teffo pleaded with the community to take care of and protect water infrastructure to avoid man-made breakdowns and unnecessary supply interruptions. “Most communities do not have water because of theft and vandalism of water assets. Please guard this project,” she appealed.

CDM is a water services authority that is responsible for the planning, implementation and refurbishment of water infrastructure projects in three local municipalities, namely Molemole, Blouberg and Lepelle-Nkumpi.

More similar projects are being implemented in all the local municipalities.
