Water supply stoppage at Olifantspoort Plant to affect city

The Polokwane Municipality says the stoppage is due to a power failure and no water is being pumped from the Olifantspoort as a result.

POLOKWANE – Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) says supply to the Polokwane Municipality will be restored once the Olifantspoort Plant is operational again.

Supply has been interrupted due to an ongoing power failure, which Eskom was notified about.

“The power failure has resulted in the plant not operating, meaning there is no water being pumped from Olifantspoort Plant to Polokwane Municipality since Friday,” municipal spokesperson, Thipa Selala said.

The stoppage is currently affecting all areas of supply to the city, Ga-Chuene and Seshego.

“Water tankers will continue providing temporary relief to all affected areas.”

Selala says it might take some time before water reaches all areas of supply after restoration because the line is currently empty.

“The municipality will provide regular updates as and when they are made available by Lepelle Northern Water. Areas experiencing water challenges are urged to report to municipal water and sanitation call centre at 015 023 5376 / 5629,” he said.
