Event organiser Lehlogonolo Rakolo, who also plays for the Polokwane Rhinos basketball team said the championship will be played in a three by three format and best players from the event will represent the province at the national basketball event scheduled for April in Gauteng.

“Both male and female teams from the Wolves, Eagles and Rhinos will participate on the day and there will be selectors scouting for standout players.”

Rakolo, who is also a placement officer at the Association for Persons with Disability Polokwane, called for more people living with disability to join the various basketball clubs in the province.

“We want to increase the number of teams in the province and for us to do so we must embark on a recruitment drive. We will teach those who don’t know how to play the sport, to play.

“As disabled people, it is important to keep fit and be physically active due to our condition because when we are active in sport we forget about our disabilities.”
