[LISTEN] Local artists praise Vincent Kunutu in new song

The trio who produced the song, Phuti Chokwe, Charles Khoza and Malesela Mokoena say they had never met Kunutu before or even asked for his assistance but they knew about him because of his reputation and word on the street.

POLOKWANE – The good work of local community man Vincent Kunutu hasn’t gone unnoticed as three local artists haved honoured him with a song titled Vincent Kunutu.

The community leader is the chairperson of the Seshego Community Against Crime and Gangsterism (Scacag) and has taken to the streets of Seshego in the past two years with the goal of erradicating drug abuse, gangsterism and crime in general.

The trio who produced the song, Phuti ‘Hummer Death Metal’ Chokwe, Charles ‘Flexi boy’ Khoza and Malesela ‘Happy Trigger’ Mokoena say they had never met Kunutu before or even asked for his assistance but they knew about him because of his reputation and word on the street.

Phuti says the song was created to honour Kunutu’s work and show him that he is appreciated, even by people who don’t know him personally.

“Everyone knows that if you have a problem, you call Mr Kunutu. It doesn’t matter what the problem is, he will be able to help. The truth is, he is there for the community in many ways and we thought it would be pointless to make a song about someone from far, that has no direct impact on our community.”

Charles told BONUS that he is inspired by Kunutu’s work and wanted to make sure other people know that there is a vigilante available whenever they face hardships.

Vocalist Malesela said he hopes people relate to the lyrics and dance to the beat wherever they may be.

Kunutu says he appreciates the compliment and was shocked to learn that a song had been made about him.

“It is motivating to know that you’ve had an impact on people. I am honoured to be thought of in such high esteem and I hope that it will make the people of Seshego know that Scacag is always available for them.”

Kunutu emphasised that it was not only because of him that the community was safer and that credit should be given to all the members of Scacag and the various stakeholders they work with, including the police.
