POLOKWANE – Flashing traffic lights may soon be a thing of the past. This is according to the Polokwane Municipality’s spokesperson Matshidiso Mothapo, who explained that teams are on the ground to fix flashing traffic lights in various intersections within the city.
In a statement on Wednesday (February 16) Mothapo confirmed that the electrical department has repaired the control boxes and are currently working on replacing components that are responsible for retaining memory after an electricity outage.
“It is expected that all the affected traffic lights should be in normal operation by the weekend,” he added.
Mothapo further urged road users to, in the meantime, treat the affected intersections as four-way stops. “Motorists and pedestrians are urged to be alert, patient and exercise caution when crossing these intersections to avoid accidents. Only cross when it is safe to do so, he concluded.
