Pepps learner conquers her fear to save a life
Diksha Jamnadas is a first-time donor and encourages others to follow in her footsteps and donate blood.
POLOKWANE – Diksha Jamnadas took a bold step to donate blood for the first time.
The PEPPS learner told Review that her friends had encouraged her to conquer her fear and to donate at the school’s blood drive. “They explained to me what it was about but I needed to do my own research about it. It was then that I discovered I could save three lives from a single donation,” she said.
Diksha added it was all the convincing she needed to go out and donate. “Initially I was nervous that it would be painful or uncomfortable but was surprised by how painless the entire process is.”
She added that she will donate again as a small way to make difference in the community. She encouraged others to follow in her footsteps and donate blood.
Blood stocks are low and SANBS encourages anyone who is 16 years and older, weighs more than 50 kg and lives a healthy life to donate blood. “A unit of blood only lasts 42 days after donation and, for this reason, it is important for blood donors to donate regularly,” SANBS says.
You can donate blood every 56 days.
To make the act of donating blood more convenient, SANBS Polokwane hosts mobile blood clinic drives at various venues across the city and in Seshego every month:
