Two men sought after jewellery store robbery in Mokopane

The armed robbery is the second incident reported at The Crossing Mall in Mokopane in the space of a week.

MOKOPANE – Two men remain at large following an armed robbery at a local jewellery store.

The acting station commander of SAPS Mokopane, Lieutenant Colonel Simon Lebelo, confirmed the incident and said it occurred earlier today at Debbie Mouton Jewellers in The Crossing Mall.

“A man entered the store and requested to see branded watches. A second man entered a while later and indicated to the employees that he had a firearm hidden in his trousers and demanded that they open the display area.”

The men took nine watches, worth an estimated R20 000 and then fled the scene, he told Bosveld Review.

The owner of the jewellery store, Debbie Mouton, confirmed the incident and urged residents to continue to do their shopping at the mall. “It is important for shoppers to visit the mall as by staying away, the other businesses will be negatively affected,” she said.

Lebelo said a case of armed robbery has been opened and no arrests have been made as yet.

The armed robbery is the second incident at the mall within a week. Bosveld contacted the management of The Crossing Mall but they declined the opportunity to comment on these incidents.

Bosveld previously reported that a 50-year-old suspect was arrested following the murder of Malesela Thale (28), who was stabbed to death last Friday. According to police reports, Thale was standing at an ATM when the incident occurred. Thale was stabbed in the chest and succumbed to his injuries while at the scene. The suspect has appeared in the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court. The court outcome for this case is not yet known.
