The man was attacked after a woman said she was scammed.

POLOKWANE – A 44-year-old man was admitted to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital after he was set alight in Polokwane yesterday (February 3).

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the incident to Review and said the man was found at the corner of Rissik and Buite streets.

“Police found the man on the scene after they received a report that the man was doused with oil by members of the public. There are reports that the guy, whose believed to be from Mokopane in the Waterberg district, robbed someone of their cash. It is not clear as to when and where this robbery took place,” Mojapelo told Review.

He added that no one on the scene was willing to share any information with the police.

“Police called for an ambulance and he was taken to hospital for medical assistance. No case was opened but we will continue to monitor the situation,” Mojapelo explained.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the man posed as an employee of a sneaker store and promised a woman discount on shoes. She reportedly paid him R1 500 for the said pair of shoes, but she never received them.
