Polokwane cops open murder case after man dies

POLOKWANE – Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo has confirmed the death of the 44-year-old man who was set alight yesterday (February 3).

The man, whose identity is known to Review but withheld until his next of kin is notified, was found by police at the corner of Buite and Rissik streets.

“The man was found at around 17:00 after police were informed he was doused with oil and set alight. He was admitted at the provincial hospital and we were notified earlier that he passed away in the early hours of this morning,” Mojapelo told Review. 

The man was accused of theft and reportedly assaulted before he was set alight. 

“The police in Polokwane have opened a case of murder and no arrests have been made yet. Anyone with information is requested to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Gerald Kotze, on 082 744 8205 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111,” Mojapelo concluded.
