POLOKWANE – The plus-size Limpopo model from Polokwane encourages plus-size women never to give up and to be proud of their size. She told the Polokwane Observer that her pageant career gives her an opportunity to show people that ‘beautiful’ doesn’t only come in small sizes, but plus-size women can be beautiful too.
“I fell in love with the pageant industry in 2018 when I did my first pageant and I’m still passionate about it. I felt like I needed to explore the modelling field and do something that is out of my comfort zone,” she said.
Mpho won Miss Venda Plus-Size title in 2019, Miss Univen Thick Size 2018 and bagged titles such as the Public Choice in all the competitions mentioned. She describes herself as beautiful, ambitious, self-driven, very determined, hard-working and a kind young lady with a heart of gold. As the reigning Limpopo Plus-Size queen, Mpho distributed masks and sanitisers at local communities and schools.
“I targeted underprivileged schools and communities that were affected by the pandemic, and I donated what will be needed the most during this time,” she said.
When Mpho entered the Miss Limpopo Plus-Size competition, she explained all the finalists had to go through a registration process where they attended workshops and had a photo shoot opportunity, which helped to boost her image a lot on the journey. The competition took place on April 10 last year at Meropa Casino Hotel.
“I would advise plus-size girls who are scared to enter pageant competitions to go ahead and chase their own dreams because at the end it’s about themselves and no one else, it’s about gaining self-confidence. Such competitions are there to help us overcome our body insecurities and find satisfaction with who we are as a sign of self-love. So go out there and show them that plus-size girls are beautiful inside and out,” she advised.
