Man in Polokwane court for fraud

The 43-year-old is accused of fraud in excess of R120 000.

LIMPOPO – A 43-year-old man made his first appearance in the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Friday (January 21).

According to a statement by Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Limpopo spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke, the man faces charges of fraud for a matter that happened in September 2019.

“At the time, the victim reportedly bought farming machinery from the company owned by the accused. The equipment is valued at R121 125 and was delivered to the victim, however, the victim inspected the machinery and realised it was faulty,” he explained.

The machinery was the returned to company of the accused. 

“When the victim followed up to hear if the machinery was fixed, he could not get hold of the accused and the money was never paid back. The victim reported the matter to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit, who then, after a successful investigation, summoned the accused to appear in court on Friday,” Maluleke added.

He said the case has been postponed to March 4.
