Polokwane woman identified as a victim of fiery N1 crash

The late Miyelani Mabunda was an employee of the Limpopo Department of Social Development.

LIMPOPO – The late Miyelani Mabunda was one of the 17 people who died in the January 11 bus crash on the N1.

The incident happened near the Mookgophong off-ramp and involved a SUV and a 22-seater bus. A total of 17 people died, of which 16 were burnt beyond recognition.

Mabunda was a employee of the Limpopo Department of Social Development who worked in the supply chain management office in Polokwane.  

Her death was officially announced by the department’s HOD Desmond Mahopo on Tuesday (January 18).

Earlier today the Social Development MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale visited Malamulele to express their condolences to the Mabunda family.

Social Development MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale who was joined by the speaker of the Vhembe District Municipality, Fredah Nkondo, and the members of the department’s senior management team.

Rakgoale, who was joined by the speaker of the Vhembe District Municipality, Fredah Nkondo, and the members of the department’s senior management team expressed her condolences to the family and assured them that social workers will be there to assist them in their time of need.

On Saturday the MEC also paid a visit to the Baloyi family in Lebowakgomo who lost three members of the family, a 34-year-old daughter and her two granddaughters, aged 7 and 15.

Rakgoale added that the department has reached out to all the families of the deceased. “We will continue to provide psychological support to the bereaved families while they await DNA results and until they find closure.”
