[LISTEN] Limpopo traffic cops lay down the law

POLOKWANE – Operations conducted by Limpopo traffic officials are bearing fruit.

In two separate incidents, 27 Zimbabwean nationals were arrested and 25 taxis were impounded, according to statements by Transport spokesperson Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala.

The Zimbabwean nationals were arrested yesterday (January 8). “They were travelling from their country to Cape Town without proper documents. They were arrested at the Polokwane Traffic Control Centre and the Department of Home Affairs will deal with the matter accordingly,” Moremi-Taueatsoala explained.

He told Review that some of the arrested men were taken to Zebediela Police Station while others were taken to  Magatle Police Station. “This is due to the fact that the cells at Polokwane and Westenburg are full,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a separate matter, 25 taxis were impounded in Polokwane this morning (January 9).

“These taxis were impounded as they operated without permits. Limpopo traffic officials continue to act swiftly on operators who do not comply with the law, to ensure that Limpopo’s roads are safer,” Moremi-Taueatsoala’s statement reads.

Transport media liaison officer has also urged motorists to be patient on provincial roads.

“We need to conscientise those travelling between Polokwane and Gauteng that they need to add another hour or so to their travelling time. Our roads are extremely busy, especially at the toll gates, as people travel back after the festive season,” he explained.
